BACKGROUND AND APPROACH |
|
|
Valladolid bought the dome of the Expo Zaragoza 2008, with a decision to revive, recycle unprecedented architecture, to do better in its urban fabric. Valladolid with the Millennium Project makes "urban acupuncture" that promotes Jaime Lerner, director of Urban Affairs Advisor to the UN. That means injecting synthetically added value in a deteriorating urban fabric.
The project integrates the square along the river. The water will be closely linked to it appearing as an alive and productive. The performance contains elements such as fountains, springs, geysers and water curtains.
Environmental considerations and sustainability are the foundation of our approach to projecting, and are the premise for the implementation of any design criteria. |

REGENERATION OF ISABEL THE CATHOLIC BRIDGE |
|
|
We visited the place, a landscape of the city of the 80's, cars, pollution, lack of respect for the environment, a city back to the river, an old concrete engineering infrastructure, no energy plan, mobility, not public space, meeting. . .
We lightened the bridge deck extending the scope enabling pedestrian and bike path integration. Pedestrians and vehicles travel at different levels. The exterior of the bridge is covered with photovoltaic panels. 8 generators have been installed along the bridge. Their energy can illuminate the surgical site, making Valladolid in a pioneer town. |

THE MILLENNIUM PROJECT, CITYSCAPE |
|
|
The Millennium Project is a square, and a pavilion, and an urban space, and riparian woodland, and mobility equipment, and pacification of public space, and noise reduction, and improvement of the pollution, and lower power consumption, and reduced footprint, and light metal, and recycled materials and certified wood, and low-light LEDs and micro wind production, and a new ETFE membrane, and more natural and less artificial light, and space to create culture, action, sports, events, and more contact with the river, and trees, and oxygenate the river, and biodiversity, and better environment for residents, and new centrality. . .
So it is not a square but a flagship, right? |

ECOLOGY AND SUSTAINABILITY |
|
|
We committed from the beginning in a sustainable strategy plan by using the runoff rainwater in non-potable uses. We use concrete made with gravel excavation. We use technological wood, avoid 50% of installed power and generate some of the energy we consume.
Incorporate the project management and habitat restoration to improve its quality. Respect to vegetation has been extreme, using native species chosen for their low water demand. The risks are made with natural water from the river, which serves as a great reservoir.
The vegetation invades the urban space increasing biodiversity. The oasis of calm that is generated will encourage the public experience of the square.
Produce environmental quality and function as a sink for CO2, we make the management of biomass from mowing and pruning for later use as fertilizer.
We designed a Selective Demolition Plan for the recovery of the construction elements at the end of life that includes innovative strategies, such as the cutting of the walls and concrete slabs for the production of reusable blocks.
The performance is sensitive to accessibility issues. Each and every one of the areas of intervention are accessible for disabled drivers, and there Braille signs on the bridge and underground parking.
Innovation leadership.
Valladolid today marks the roadmap micro wind energy in Spain, with 8 mills Urban Green Energy, world leaders in the sector.
Behind him there are others being planned city San Sebastian, Zaragoza, Barcelona,. . . |
